The speed of modern life doesn’t always leave you a lot of time to stop and smell the chocolate chip cookies. With this week’s Escape, jump the racetrack for a while and enjoy the serenity of an earlier era—in a setting that epitomizes the hospitality and attention to detail of a Select Registry bed and breakfast.
When you choose from a two-night weekend ($339) or weekday package ($269) at the Inn by the Bandstand in Exeter, New Hampshire, you’ll find your Queen Room in this 1809 inn warmly furnished with period antiques and comfortable chairs.
Whether you want to relax into the peace of your surroundings and let the outside world melt away for a while, or keep current with your e-mail using the free Wi-Fi, you’ll be able to take your days at exactly the pace you desire.
Head downstairs to chat with hosts Jim and Kate and the other guests while you enjoy coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and an amazing made-from-scratch breakfast like quiche or stuffed blueberry pancakes served with fresh fruit and yogurt. Want to stay in bed instead? Enjoy breakfast in your room one morning as part of your Escape.
You’ll find yourself situated right in the center of town, with quaint shops and historic sightseeing right outside your door. Stroll around town and redeem your $25 voucher to the Cornucopia Wine & Cheese Market, where you might catch a weekend tasting as you browse the shelves for salsas, sauces, and local jams to go with your cheese and wine selection.
While you’re out, discover the beautiful architecture of the Academy Library or pay a visit to the Science Center. Or, travel further afield with an included complimentary bike rental for two (available half-days on weekends, and two hours on weekdays). When you arrive home, don’t be surprised to see that a plate of cookies and a bottle of port is waiting for you back at the inn.
Time truly slows down with this charming getaway, so you’ll have the option to check in early or linger late, plus $75 off your next stay through September 30, 2012. Don’t hurry through each day like you’re late to tomorrow: Grab this Escape and pay a relaxing visit to days gone by.

Los Olas, a great Mexican place within walking distance of the Inn, is now offering 15% of your bill when you show your room key! It is one of my favorite places in town. Be prepared to stand in line, though, to place your order. It’s VERY popular, but totally worth it!
Cornucopia, next door to the Inn, offers a great selection of wines and cheeses, many sources are local. Show your room key and get 10% off!
