Phillips junior suite is the Inn’s most elegant room! On the second floor at the front of the house overlooking the bandstand, Phillips features exquisite crown molding and the original Federal-style fire place mantle. With its imposing king size four poster mahogany rice bed and other beautiful antiques, it is often referred to as the ‘Bridal Suite”. The junior sutie also features a queen-size sofa bed, comfortably sleeping four people.
Named for Dr. John Phillips, founder of Phillips Exeter Academy in 1781, Dr. Phillips was a merchant, banker and most of all a public servant. Dr. Phillips’s father, the Reverend George Phillips, arrived on the Arbella with Governor Winthrop in 1630. Dr. Phillips also played a key role in financially supporting his nephew Samuel Phillips to found and write the charter for his own school in Andover, Massachusetts in 1778. The two schools share an academic and athletic rivalry since their founding.
