A Gorgeous Afternoon at Fuller Gardens in New Hampshire
Though there are more than enough things to do on the Seacoast of New Hampshire, one of our favorite things is visiting the Fuller Gardens. Though Fuller Gardens now operates as a public botanical garden, it was once part of the historic estate of Alvan T. Fuller, offering visitors an unparalleled opportunity to view the historic grandeur of a turn-of-the-century estate. It’s actually one of the last working estate gardens of its kind left in the country.
There are several great things worth seeing at the historic Fuller Gardens, but one of the many highlights of this stunning space is its expansive rose gardens. These formal rose gardens, commissioned in the 1920s, feature thousands of rose bushes and more than 100 varieties. Thanks to the intentional design of this garden, visitors will enjoy an entire season’s worth of blooms from June through October.
Aside from their gorgeous rose gardens, the Fuller Gardens also have formal English perennial border gardens that bloom from spring through fall, a peaceful Japanese Garden that blooms in May, and a tropical conservatory, all of which are beautifully framed by traditional sculpted hedges popular in early 20th-century estate gardens. There’s also a beautiful Dahlia garden on-site that blooms all season long.
The Fuller Gardens opens for the year on Mother’s Day Weekend in early May and stays open through mid-October. It’s open seven days a week from 10 am – 5:30 pm. The admission cost is currently $10/adult, and at least 75% of the Fuller Gardens is handicap accessible for easy garden viewing for its guests. There are also fun events throughout the season held at the Fuller Gardens.
